Scotsman.com Sport - Top Stories - Butt reveals the agony of Ecstasy
Asim Butt says his life is 'work and cricket', but he'll have to do without the latter after being banned for a year.
Butt, an Edinburgh shopkeeper, hardly had a reputation as a devil-may-care socialite, yet here he was, being given a year's ban from cricket for a drug normally associated with people half his age.
Butt's claim that he had unknowingly ingested MDMA was deemed irrelevant under the rule of strict liability.

And here Butt’s influence is beginning to be felt off the field too as he revels in the role of club youth convener responsible for helping groom the likes of Chris West and Ali Farouk.

Asim Butt and Fraser Watts were the men who mattered most as they set up what should be a springboard to victory against Ireland in Dublin.
Butt claimed a superb five-wicket haul before Watts struck a robust unbeaten half century to guide the Scots to within less than 100 runs of glory with eight men in hand.
The initial flurry from Butt then gave Scotland’s pursuit the ideal momentum, though the jitters were evident when he and Bruce Patterson were removed.

Some stories, woven into some twisted composition, demand from the reader to apply his or her intelligence to trace out the real tale from apparently complex structure or think of some missing link in the plot and complete the conundrum.
The story of the recently published novel of Muhammad Asim Butt, ‘Diara’, though does not have such complexity of the structure, it is not simple enough to be easily understandable by readers who are used to reading stories with conventional structures.
Though Asim did not smartly attempt to introduce some new composition, the arrangement of the story’s conventional and familiar components, based on pure realism, are developed in a queer way.
