Pangasinan, officially Province of Pangasinan (Pangasinan: Luyag na Pangasinan), is one of the provinces of the Republic of the Philippines.
Pangasinan fell victim to the gerrymandering of the Philippines by President Ferdinand Marcos when he made Pangasinan part of the northern Ilocos Region or Region I, although Pangasinan already enjoyed the status of a region because of its size, population and distinct primary language, which is Pangasinan.
According to the 2000 census 47% of the population are Pangasinan and 44% are Ilocanos.

 Town History
ASINGAN got its name from an early incident when some visitors cried "Naasing kayo" (Ilocano for you are hostile) to some natives who did not want the visitors to hang around.
It must have been during this period that the Asingan convent (the biggest convent in Eastern Pangasinan at that time) was razed to the ground by a Katipunero named Agustin Alejo.
Thus, on October 10, 1993, which is celebrated in Asingan as the feast day of their Patron Saint St. Louis Beltran, the reconstructed church was opened to all Asinganians for the first time.

The history of the Diocese of Urdaneta is closely linked with that of the Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan, out of which was carved the territory of the new diocese when created on January 12, 1985.
The diocese covers 17 municipalities on the eastern part of the civil province of Pangasinan, a land area of 1,616 square kilometers and a population of 625,855 of which 85 per cent are Catholics.
