Wildlife-rich Askham Bogs will benefit from the largest share of the wildlife trust's windfall.
The 120-acre bogs, by the A64 near Copmanthorpe, will see £320,000 spent to preserve the wetland habitat, home to rare beetles and spiders and the royal fern and water violet.
A Malton beauty spot is also in line for a slice of the cash - Jeffrey Bog, just south west of the town, where wild flowers such as orchids grow, is to get a new sluice, a bridge and fencing.

The soil around Copmanthorpe (as with the Vale of York itself) is also high quality, arable soil.
However, there is an anomaly here - Askham Bogs just North of Copmanthorpe is a peat bog.
The reason for this anomaly will be explained in the next chapter.

Unfortunately you will have to walk at least 0.5 mile to get to the ECML and probably more if you want a good spot.
Others may travel to Askham Park and Ride (White Line 3 or Pink Line 12) and try to get pictures from the car park or from the old formation.
However I don’t know this area and I don’t like the look of it when they mention Askham Bogs is pretty close by.
