ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL BRINGING BOB WILLS TO A NEW AUDIENCE
Making Ride With Bob, Asleep at the Wheel's Grammy-winning all-star tribute to the legacy of Bob Wills & the Texas Playboys, wasn't too much of a stretch for the Austin-based group, which is currently celebrating its 30th anniversary.
And as AATW leader Ray Benson says with a laugh, "A couple of reviewers have pointed out that in a way every Asleep at the Wheel album is a tribute to Bob Wills, and that's true to an extent.
This project has a threefold purpose: One, it's an Asleep at the Wheel vehicle; two, I'm trying to get the fact of Bob Wills' importance to a wider audience; and three, I'm trying to get some of the younger popular country artists involved so they have Bob Wills' music as part of their experience.

It was in the aftermath of 1999's critically acclaimed -- and quadruple Grammy winning -- Ride With Bob that Asleep at the Wheel's towering big boss man, Ray Benson, noticed an equally giant hole in the band's storied catalog.
Over the course of the last three decades, Benson and the Wheel have boldly defied the fickle lures of the mainstream -- and thrived -- by sticking to their noble cause of keeping that distinctly American of art forms, Western Swing, alive and kicking.

"Asleep at the Wheel": The Special Menace of Inherited Afflictions from Ionizing Radiation
The main importance of the "famous failure" has been its power to render much of the environmental and medical communities "asleep at the wheel," with respect to the menace of inherited afflictions caused by ionizing radiation.
Some environmentalists even talk about "giving nuclear power a second chance." And some people in medicine are so relaxed, about low-dose radiation, that their customers have to fight in order to obtain shielding of their ovaries and testes from xray beams.
It is far from prudent, for anyone in environmental or medical circles to be "asleep at the wheel."
