Bhubaneswar: Orissa Governor M M Rajendran dissolved the 12th State Legislative Assembly and asked Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and his Council of Ministers to continue in office as caretaker government till the election was held and a new Council of Ministers appointed.
The Council of Ministers in its resolution recommended the dissolution of the State Assembly on February 6 under Article 174 (2) (b) of the Constitution so as to enable Assembly election to be held along with the Lok Sabha election.
The resolution further stated that if the Assembly election would not be held along with the Lok Sabha poll, there would not only be two elections within a span of nine months, but the developmental activities in the state would be affected due to the enforcement of model code of conduct.
