One man's passion. (basketball star John Stockton; includes related article) (Cover Story) - HighBeam Encyclopedia
Stockton, whose record-breaking assist came in the second quarter of a homecourt blowout of the Nuggets and was his 11th of the evening, seemed resigned to this unsolicited recognition and wanted the hoopla over as quickly as possible.
But for a player whose most exotic childhood basketball fantasy involved one day beating his older brother on the family driveway, the last stage of this drive toward a monumental but irksomely individual NBA milestone was tinged with irony and mild irritation.
Basketball purists can argue, and have, the legitimacy of this statistic for years, but few will dispute Stockton's rightful place among distributors of the basketball.
