Associated British Foods (ABF) has today posted a two per cent drop in half-year profits and warned that its operating profit for the remainder of the year will continue to be affected by difficult conditions in the UK sugar market and rising energy costs.
The food and retail company reported that its adjusted profit before tax was down to £255 million for the 24-week period ending March 4th, 2006.
But ABF said that operating profits at discount clothes chain Primark were up 20 per cent to £71 million, despite a major fire at the retailer’s main UK warehouse last November.

It is expected that George Weston will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of ABF on 20 September 2002 and the shares of George Weston will be delisted from the Australian Stock Exchange on 27 September 2002.
