I was surprised to see Asterius being described as gothic, as I think of that genre as being much slower and more atmospheric than most metal, which this is not.

Asterius have an original nice official website focused on pictures of stars and galaxies and their music maybe could be considered cosmic, both in style and content.
Absolutely innovative, though in many moments they are clearly bound to the new cyber stream, they have the energy and the good musical inspiration to play raw Death attacks, enriched by Black atmospheres, superheavy and crunchy rhythmic, sidereal and reverbering background, united with some post decadent industrial scenery, supported by short anthemic passages too.
Listening to Asterius i catch just a glimpse of what Metal of the new century could be, and in particular a possible evolution of Death and Black,in case they will really able to incorporate other styles.

Asterius is a self-proclaimed "Gothic fl metal act"; drop the first unnecessary adjective, keep the latter and that sums it up pretty well-- if you boiled King Diamond and Cradle of Filth in a cauldron and then ground up Messiah Marcolin of Candlemass for seasoning and stirred him in, you would have Asterius.
This is not a bad effort, but I must admit to having a little trouble with traditional Black Metal arrangements-- the layered growling, hissing and spoken vocals tend to at best distract me from the music and at worst, irritate me (and we barbarians are extremely dangerous when irritated).
I believe, however, that most things are exactly what they appear to be, and in that regard Asterius fails in the originality department.

The German band Asterius formed in the mid nineties, self-releasing their first album and then latching on to the Italian label Cruz Del Sur for their second effort, A Moment Of Singularity.
They call their music "cosmic bizarre metal" (which actually isn't inaccurate), though it's probably a bit more telling to label them as gothic fl metal, as they have clear elements of both genres (and even a few progressive touches) though they aren't firmly in either camp.
There's room for improvement, but the potential is there, and the two releases thus far may well be of interest to those seeking something a bit different.
