 MAWS - showing resource: asteroid
Asteroids is a video game artistic masterpiece."The simple fact that the spaceship in Asteroids continues to move after you cut thrust, providing a wee glimpse of the Newtonian mechanics of actual space flight, triggered the imaginations of many users.
Another practical joke involving Asteroids was a slight modification in the Prototype of the game, because Owen Rubin (initials ORR on most Atari high score tables) kept filling up the high score tables when the programmers were not around.
Asteroids remains Atari's bestselling arcade game of all time, with approximately 56,565 units produced (47,840 upright and 8,725 cocktail) in total.

The aim of the list is to foster an environment in which game developers can exchange ideas and discuss and solve problems they encounter during development.
This is a convention adopted by the Audyssey list and other lists when one wants to give aid to those who truly want it, but does not want to ruin the game for others.
All are welcome as long as they respect their fellow community members and keep in mind that the topic of the list is supposed to be games.

From said experience, I have to classify Asteroids Deluxe as a flawed brilliance, and yet another of the greatest games of all time (which is understandable, since it varies fairly little from its older brother.)
You wonder why this doesn't ruin game, but it doesn't, because each level, the Hexagon comes out quicker and moves faster, to the point where before an abundance of asteroids could even come close to becoming a problem, your main goal in life is to avoid getting spiked by the Hexagon.
Asteroids Deluxe, for the first few levels, does this even better, as the rocks are faster and "meaner" (if one can believe that).

 Phosphor-Dot Fossils: Asteroids
Asteroids was the second truly great game for the Atari 2600, coming soon after the faithful rendition of Space Invaders.
Atari later created a conversion kit add-on, Asteroids Deluxe, which replaced hyperspace with a shield you could raise to deflect the impact of an imminent collision (though your shield would have to recharge immediately thereafter, leaving you in the lurch).
Easily the most "physics-correct" space video game ever made, Asteroids was also one of the coolest.
