Aston Martin - WOI Encyclopedia Italia
Aston Martin was founded in 1914 by Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford.
The 1929 Aston Martin International was another successful racer and was followed by the Le Mans and the Ulster.
The very British glamour of Aston Martin cars meant they were a natural choice for the James Bond series of action films, notably the silver DB5 that appears in Goldfinger (1964) and Thunderball (1965) as James Bond's company car, and then in GoldenEye (1995) and Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) as his private car.

When the William Towns designed DBS was unveiled in 1967, everyone must have known that the car was without the V8 engine that had surfaced in the racing Lolas earlier that year.
A distinguishing feature of the DBS and DBSV8 are the four quartz iodine headlights set into a new interpretation of the Aston Martin grille.
On introduction of the DBS V8, the DBS was modified; these later cars are easy to spot as they have no louvers in the 'C' post, but do have louvers under the rear window.

What we can tell is that the DBS is closely based on the DB9 bodyshell but has a new front (with carbonfibre splitter) and rear boot lid spoiler and diffuser, deeper sills and more vents on the bonnet.
The interior is covered in Alcantara and the DBS has a conventional manual gear change with the shift pattern illuminated; the six speed Graziano from the V8 Vantage perhaps.
NOTE To avoid confusion with the previous DBS (1967 to 1972), I may, in future have to describe this car as either the DBS (V12) or the Gaydon DBS.

Aston Martin DBS V8 GTP Muncher - Supercars.net
Staffordshire based Aston Martin specialist Hamilton had conceived the idea of racing one of the V8-engined cars in 1974, campaigning this example, chassis number 10038, in lightly modified form in club events.
Running steadily to the flag, the Aston Martin crossed the finish line after 2,210.78 miles of racing with Robin Hamilton, who had driven longest of the three drivers, at the wheel.
It gave Hamilton immense satisfaction, not only because he had achieved a lifelong ambition by driving an Aston Martin across the Le Mans finishing line, but also because by so doing he had confounded the pundits who claimed that the heavyweight DBS V8 was totally unsuitable for racing.

 Aston Martin DBS - Motorbase
First launched in 1967 the DBS featured an all new body, designed by William Towns (who later designed the AM Lagonda in 1976) which featured a distinctive four headlamp grille and a much squarer, more transatlantic shape than seen before on the other DB cars.
Due to the increased weight of the DBS body, performance dropped resulting in a 140mph top speed and a 0-60 time of 8 seconds.
The DBS was eventually replaced by the DBS V8, although confusingly a single headlamp car known simply as a Vantage, was also produced alongside the AMV8 but featuring the straight six DBS engine.
