Hitchens began his career with Kidderminster Harriers and Cardiff City before moving to Aston Villa in 1957, where he spent four seasons.
He made his debut for England in 1961, scoring after just two minutes in an 8-0 drubbing of Mexico, and two weeks later scored twice more in Rome as England beat Italy 3–2.
Gerald Archibald "Gerry" Hitchens (born October 8, 1934 in Rawnsley, Staffordshire; died 1983 in Hope, Clwyd) was an English footballer, who played as a centre forward.

Bosko Balaban's controversial transfer to Aston Villa from Dynamo Zagreb was negotiated by the Villa chairman Doug Ellis and had nothing to do with the manager John Gregory, according to the man who brokered the deal on Balaban's behalf.
As for Balaban's future Mamic insisted that the player remained contracted to Aston Villa and will once more be their responsibility when his loan period ends next June.
Despite Balaban's impres sive record - he finished top scorer in the Croatian league two seasons in a row before joining Villa - the fee was seen as exessive by many in Croatia.

Child, at that time playing in the Aston Villa reserve team, made his NASL debut May 6, 1972 against Montreal in Atlanta and went on to score eight goals in his first season, three of them in one game against Dallas.
One of the top goal scorers in NASL history, Paul originally cam to the NASL in 1972 from Aston Villa (English Football Club), on loan to Atlanta Chiefs.
In his ten seasons in the NASL, Child scored 102 goals in 241 game was named in the League's First All-Star Team in 1972 and 1974.
