Born in 1921, in Argentina to Italian parents, Piazolla actually spent his childhood in New York where he began his piano studies and life-long love affair with the bandon(on, a concertina-like accordian which had become the premiere instrument of the tango.
Piazolla's special love for Bach was ever present in his compositions (fugue, canon, counterpoint).

Astor Pantaleón Piazzolla was born on March 11, 1921 in Mar del Plata, Argentina, only child of Vicente “Nonino” Piazzolla and Asunta Mainetti.
Astor studies the bandoneon for one year with Andrés DÁquila and he makes his first record, Marionette Spagnol; a phonograph disk (non commercial) at the Radio Recording Studio in New York on 11/30/1931.
Astor feels the need to advance musically, and already being the arranger of the Troilo orchestra, he begins his musical studies with Alberto Ginastera in 1941, and later in 1943, he studies piano with Raúl Spivak.

To Astor Piazzolla and his music Astor Piazzolla died in 1992 after a severe illness which he had already suffered from while he was in Paris, in his beloved Buenos Aires, in his native land of South America where he was born in 1921 in Seebad Mar del Plata on the Atlantic coast.
The sound of the bandoneon, a hallmark of the music of Astor Piazzolla and known worldwide, was brought to life by Marcelo Nisinman, who in the difficult selection phase was personally given the blessing of Piazzolla.
A much younger person was Sebastian Forster who Astor accompanied as he bought his first piano; today he takes this instrument throughout the whole world and receives much applause with it in his concerts.
