The Canadian radio and television industry is ripe for consolidation in the next 18 to 24 months and Astral Media will be part of the deal making, says the head of the radio and speciality channel broadcaster.
In September, Astral announced the sale of eight Quebec radio stations, including the province's leading AM broadcaster, to private investors for $12 million after a planned sale to a subsidiary of Quebecor Inc. was rejected by the federal broadcast regulator.
The stations were among 19 French-language stations in Quebec and New Brunswick that Astral Media Inc. bought from Telemedia Communications Inc. for $225 million in 2001.
