  Splendid E-zine reviews: Rarewerks
"How Can You Hear Us?" is no second-string track; Astralwerks replaced "Skank" with this song on the international editions of Amp 2 (for legal reasons, but the fact that they chose it for such a massive selling title proves their faith in it).
Unavailable on any of his full-length albums and seldom played publicly in the US -- especially in my local radio market, which needs a rescue tube for all the Lifehouse that's being played -- it's a nice change, with funky breaks, big beats and overdrawn loops.
Astralwerks' celebration of their seventh anniversary is a party to which the fans have been invited.

Astralwerks Records - New York, NY, 10001 - Citysearch
Sprouting up from the soil of Caroline Records in 1993, Astralwerks really arrived on the scene in 1997, when they introduced the Chemical Brothers to America.
In the ensuing hype, Astralwerks' name was batted around by countless dance-music devotees and industry wags as the label poised to usher in the new era of all-electronica, all-the-time.
But Astralwerks has rounded up an impressive and diverse family of acts who approach electronica's future from many different angles.

NEW YORK (DFA Records) - DFA Records and Astralwerks Records are proud to announce a collaborative release effort, which will deliver projects from The Juan Maclean, Delia Gonzalez and Gavin Russom, and Black Dice over the next year, alongside continued vinyl releases in the traditional DFA style you know and love.
Astralwerks, home to such bands as Phoenix, Caesars, Air, and The Chemical Brothers is the perfect label to partner up with DFA, as both are forerunners of electronic music today.
Astralwerks GM Errol Kolosine commented: "We've all been huge fans of everything DFA have produced - for us its a dream come true to bring our expertise to their exceptional vision and style.

Kings of Convenience - Quiet is the New Loud (Astralwerks)
Just last year, Kings of Convenience, a mellow pop duo from Norway, released their debut album on Kindercore, and the band has already switched labels to Astralwerks and recorded a brand new album, Quiet is the New Loud.
There may be an extra instrument or an extra section to the song, but they are basically the same songs, recorded in a Liverpool studio (thanks to Astralwerks' bankroll) instead of the band's home.
The songs are very good, of course, but the album feels like a let down to anyone who owns their debut.

Coolfer: DFA Inks Deal With Astralwerks   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
Astralwerks Records has inked a partnership deal with DFA Records.
Over the years, Astralwerks has moved away from the British dance music that long defined the label.
I think this deal comes from the fact, that DFA did a deal with EMI and since Astralwerks basically puts out international releases that Virgin or Capitol doesn't want, you have the real answer on why DFA is hooked up with Astralwerks and not another label.

Astralwerks has presented me with Unknownwerks, the earnestly subtitled "New Crop of American Electronic Artists." You'll recall, I'm sure, that Astralwerks was once the driving force behind crossover-potential DJs and producers across the land.
Unknownwerks turns out to be exactly what Astralwerks says it is. 12 tracks of mostly unsigned acts putting their best foot forward and taking at shot at stardom.
This is a good thing, in the sense that the disc brings together a wide range of sounds and artists that are all new-- there's sure to be a few winners in the bunch, right?

Astralwerks Records - Label Profile - Stylus Magazine
However, as Astralwerks started distributing more and more relevant records— the label’s now-signature artist, The Chemical Brothers, and their debut Exit Planet Dust; as well as the debut record by the Space Time Continuum— Caroline slowly started dying out, releasing less and less important/profitable music.
Astralwerks, which is part of EMI, has access to artists from labels such as Virgin overseas and Capitol nationally, so while they are viewed as a sort of "indie dance label," they do have access to distributing major label artists here in the States.
With the incoming diversity the label has acquired, Astralwerks has also been turning their attention to North American artists, while still keeping their eye on their chief source of music, Europe.
