All the featured characters of "Astro City," whether super-powered or pedestrian, have been people who wrestle with assorted conflicts in their lives.
"Astro City's" Silver Agent is, as many of the book's characters are, a pastiche of established genre archetypes and concepts, most obviously Captain America.
The trials and tribulations of the fascinating Williams' brothers and the chaotic Astro City of the 1970s and 1980s continue on into books 2, 3, and 4 over the next couple of years.

Astro City: The Dark Age is about the loss of idealism and innocence, yet about having hope during the dark times.

  Astro City
Kurt Busiek's Astro City is a comic book series centered around a fictional American city of that name.
Astro City exists in a world where superheroes have existed since at least the 19th century, the first public hero, Air Ace, appearing during World War I.
The essential hook of Astro City is that it explores the reactions that people - both ordinary people and the heroes and villains themselves - have to living in their world.

Astro City is set in a world where superheroes have existed since at least the 19th century: the first public hero, Air Ace, appeared soon after World War I.
Astro City is made up of numerous neighborhoods, which include the rebuilt City Center, centered around Binderbeck Plaza; Old Town; Chesler (also known as "The Sweatshop"); Shadow Hill; Bakerville; Derbyfield; Museum Row/Centennial Park; Iger Square; Kiefer Square; Kanewood; South Kanewood; Fass Gardens; Gibson Hills; and Patterson Heights.
Astro City has been stated to be a city in the western United States, presumably west of the Mississippi River due to the "K-designations" of two stations (KBAC, KACT).

 SurReview: Astro City
Like Sandman, Astro City wanders from one story to the next, from one set of characters to the next, not quite giving us the chance to grow too attached.
Astro City itself is New York, filtered through the Gernsback Continuum (the city's symbol is an old school sci-fi rocket within the electron paths of a model atom -- iconography just doesn't get more 50's sci-fi than that).
Astro City works on the level of good story as well -- on top of the novelty, on top of unusual perspective, on top of the critical acclaim, it's fun to read, and Busiek tells good stories.

Astro City   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Astro City differs from the other two in that the universe it explores was created especially for it, whereas Marvels and Kingdom Come explored the characters of the Marvel and DC universes.
Perhaps the most serious problem that Busiek faces with Astro City is the fact that we readers don't have any previous experience with the characters of his world.
This all works because what Astro City is about isn't just simple superhero stories of the old school, nor the costumed vigilante anti-hero slugfests that have been so common over the last several years.

 Metroactive Books | Astro City
Astro City, the superhero-ridden metropolis that Kurt Busiek chronicles in the continuing series, comes complete with neighborhoods, landmarks and city secrets.
The Confessor makes his headquarters in a Gaudiesque cathedral that's swallowed up 14 city blocks--"never finished, never consecrated, fallen into disrepair." Most of Busiek's heroes are modeled heavily on other comic characters, and for broodiness and goth appeal, this Confesser is obviously meant to be the Batman of Astro City.
Busiek's challenge in the long run, having set up the plot, is to reconcile the two halves of the city: the sparkling good neighborhoods and the bad parts of town around the cathedral and Bruiser's bar.

Kurt Busiek's ASTRO CITY is a striking work of civic planning - a universe of characters created afresh, but made to feel retro and familiar.
KURT BUSIEK'S ASTRO CITY is one in a woeful string of 90s comics that met with great critical approval on their arrival, but later fell to death or near-death at the hand of erratic, or worse, publishing.
In the letter pages of the comic, he explained to faithful readers that the particular type of writing ASTRO CITY called for was near impossible for him to undertake in a poor state of health, unlike his more traditional superhero work for Marvel.
