Originally conceived by Judge Roy Hofheinz, president of Houston’s professional baseball team, county judge, and former mayor of the city, the Astrodome was intended to accommodate the city’s professional sports team while protecting them and their fans from the area’s seasonally hot and rainy weather conditions.

The "rape, murder, beatings" that are alleged to be commonplace in the Astrodome are a load of hooey.

I'm a little behind the times in commenting on this story about the sad current state of affairs with the Astrodome.
And that the Astrodome should be protected if at all possible.
20 million to fund an endowment that would allow the Astrodome to continue to sit empty and unused seems a bit silly to me. I off all people have fond memories of watching Oiler games during the Luv Ya Blue period in the dome.
