Aichi is Japan’s central crossroads, the place where east and west meet, and birthplace of three of the country’s most famous shoguns.
For many Japanese, traditional Aichi is synonymous with ceramics, and still today it’s the hum of the potter’s wheel which attracts thousands of visitors to make the short journey northeast from Nagoya to Seto, a picturesque town surrounded to the north and east by valleys covered in lush forest.
Aichi has its fair share of spa resorts, but one place worth seeking out as much for its tranquil location at the foot of Mt Sanage as for the therapeutic value of a dip in its hot springs is Sanage Onsen, close to the city of Toyota.
