Fillmore East was promoter Bill Graham's rock palace in the East Village area of New York City.
It opened in March of 1968, to give Graham an East Coast counterpart to his Fillmore West establishment in San Francisco, and quickly became "The church of rock and roll," with two-show concerts several nights a week.
Many live albums were recorded at the Fillmore East, the most notable of them being The Allman Brothers Band At Fillmore East, generally considered one of the best live albums ever.

The Fillmore East was a cosy theatre with a seating capacity of 3664, unlike Filhmore West in San Francisco, which was the old Carousel Ballroom and had very little seating.
Shows at the Fillmore East were twice nightly at eight and eleven thirty.
By the time this Fillmore concert came along it had been dropped in favour of the tracks from the forthcoming Cricldewood Green studio album such as Love Like A Man, SO,OOO Miles Beneath My Brain and Working On The Road, and this is probably why it shows up here as an encore.

A little less than a year earlier, rock impresario Bill Graham had successfully established an East Coast annex for his San Francisco empire, when he took over the Village Theater, a magnificently seedy old movie palace (formerly the Loew's Commodore, and before that a home to Yiddish theater productions), and renamed the place Fillmore East.

The range of their material and the more tenuous fact that they also use two drummers have lead to what I suppose are inevitable comparisons to the Dead in its better days.

This is an expanded version of the original release Live at Fillmore East with an additional five (5) tracks, of which several are repeated from their Eat a Peach CD including the scorching 33 minute Mt. Jam.

Live at the Fillmore East (March 7, 1970): It's About That Time is the official release of an oft-bootlegged performance of Davis' "lost quintet." His cohorts were Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea, Dave Holland, Jack DeJohnette and Airto Moreira.
Most of the tunes performed at this Fillmore date (not to be confused with another release, Miles Davis at Fillmore: Live at the Fillmore East, recorded in June of the same year) were from the landmark Bitches Brew LP.

Highfidelityreview.com has the news from Universal that the Allman Brother's classic "Live At Fillmore East" SACD has been postponed until August and bumped up to a two disc set.
There is a "Fillmore Concerts" redbook CD (two discs) that includes some bonus tracks, but consists mostly of the live cuts that are included on the "Eat A Peach" release, which is still scheduled for SACD release on July 13.
I am confident I will buy both, whatever the content, but I am curious as to whether there is new material on the two disc verion of "...Fillmore East".

The Mothers played the Fillmore shortly before it closed its doors in 1971.
Much of this album is given to an oral, so to speak, history of good old rock'n'roll decadence by Professors Flo & Eddie.

With only two studio albums (and plenty of touring) under their belt, the Georgia sextet tore into the Fillmore East with road-tested buoyancy.
At only seven tracks, "The Allman Brothers Band At Fillmore East" still barely fits on a single disc, clocking in at over 76 minutes.
"At Fillmore East" isn't a perfect album, but when everything gels it really comes pretty close, and if you only ever buy one Allman Brothers album....well, then you should go get "A Decade Of Hits 1969-1979", actually, but if only you buy TWO Allman Brothers albums, this should be the other one!

`The Mothers Fillmore East - June 1971' starring Frank Zappa, selected `Mothers', Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman of `The Turtles', and blues drummer extraordinare, Ansley Dunbar is certainly one of Zappa / The Mothers of Invention's best albums, especially when you look at the glut of re-released and re-re-released material from Zappa.
This is, after all, Fillmore East, although he does squeeze one in with `Lonesome Electric Turkey' just before his classic `Peaches En Regalia'.
All of this stuff was recorded the last week the Fillmore was open, as well as the Allman Brothers album from that time.......
