The agreement between Tramiel and Warner Communications was that Atari Games must always include the "Games" after "Atari" on its logo and that Atari Games could not use the Atari brand at all in the consumer market (computers and home consoles).
Atari Corp., in contrast, was freezing all projects, letting go of much of the original staff, and streamlining operations in general.
Atari founder Nolan Bushnell wanted to purchase Atari Games when it was up for sale in 1996.

Atari CEO Ray Kassar was furious, as Atari owned the rights to publish Donkey Kong for computers, and he accused Nintendo of double dealing with the Donkey Kong license.

Atari released an improved version of the 2600 released in 1986, features a built in version of asteroids.
However it was never as successful as it predecessor mainly due to its lack of decent games, most which were the same tired old releases that had already been seen time and again and although much improved over their Atari 2600 counterparts.

Paradoxically, the FLASHBACK 2 from Atari is spectacular.
It is hard to move around with the joystick thingy (the game doesn't respond to it very well) and with all the Playstation and Nindento's out you would think that they could come up with some better graphics than the old, bla, two demintional ones.

First announced in December of last year, Retro Atari Classics for the Nintendo DS is, in case you haven't guessed, a compilation of classic Atari games.
In both versions of Asteroids (as well as five other games), the lower screen is transformed into a control pad of sorts, complete with graphics of various buttons, steering wheels, and close-up images of your craft, as is appropriate to the game in question.
One of our favorite games in the Retro Atari Classics compilation is Warlords, despite the fact that it doesn't benefit from the touch screen or the second screen in any way (touch-screen play is optional but not great) and would definitely be easier to play on a larger screen.

They revived the Atari Interactive label (this time as an actual division of Hasbro Interactive) for PC and console games for the PSX, Dreamcast and even the game.com.
In the 70's when Atari dominated the arcade market, they created another company called Kee Games, which existed solely to release Atari games under new names to make it seem like there was more competition than there was.
This implies that it was a big part of why Midway shut down the Atari label, although I think the overall status of the arcade industry had more to do with it (hence the shutting down of Midway's arcade division itself).

IFone company is reportedly negotiating with French computer games company Infogrames which owns the rights to the Atari games and name.
The versions of the games it is hoping to create will be versions that can be downloaded and run on any Epoc compatible handheld device produced by the likes of Psion, or gadgets that can run software written in the Java programming language.
The first few games should be ready for release in September, with more to follow early next year.
