Atari's one and only entry in to the handheld console market, the Atari Lynx was a far superior unit that holds it's own (and is in many way considered suprior) even with todays Game Boy Colors and NeoGeo Pocket's.
The lynx had 64k of ram, and was capable of adressing up to 2 megabytes of gamecard rom (though most available games are 128k-512k).
The Lynx was a bit larger than the Lynx II, had mono instead of stereo sound (including in the headphone jack), and had a 5 minute auto-shutoff.

The plot of the Lynx version of Daemon’s Gate seems to roughly parallel the version found on some other consoles -- the town names are, at least, similar -- but there are also enough differences here that it truly is a distinct title in itself and players will find themselves in truly uncharted territory.
Had it been completed, the good folk at Imagitec would have given the Lynx gaming world what would seem to be a huge, sprawling (if fairly standard) RPG which would likely have ranked in the upper echelons of the Lynx’s library.

It had been mentioned and hoped that the Atari Jaguar 64 would use the Atari Lynx as a high-end interactive video game controller with such high hopes as being the motion tracker for Alien Vs. Predator or even a Tricorder for a hoped for Star Trek game.
Telegames has just recently released 2 new games for the Lynx and several other developers are working on Lynx games for the Lynx is far from dead, in many ways people sometimes feel the Lynx has more life left to it then the Atari Jaguar 64.

It's moderately fast, especially with the full screen DirectX mode, and can attain full speed on a P166 or higher at 1X resolution.

No NetLynx for this release I'm afraid, the core NetLynx code needs to be rewritten to stand a chance of working (moved to Client/Server type) and there is just not time for this release.
Handy was the original name of the Lynx project that was started at Epyx and then finished by Atari.
My deep respect goes out to the three guys who conceived the Lynx (Dave Needle, RJ Mical and David Morse) for designing/building a superb piece of kit, its a shame Atari wasn't up to the challenge of marketing the product.
