Atharvaveda - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Atharvaveda (Sanskrit: अथर्ववेद, atharvavéda, a tatpurusha compound of atharvān, a type of priest, and veda meaning "knowledge") is a sacred text of Hinduism, and one of the four Vedas, often called the "fourth Veda".
According to tradition, the Atharvaveda was mainly composed by two groups of rishis known as the Bhrigus and the Angirasas.
The Atharvaveda is also the first Indic text to mention Iron (as śyāma ayas, literally "fl metal"), so that scholarly consensus dates the bulk of the Atharvaveda hymns to the early Indian Iron Age, corresponding to the 12th to 10th centuries BC or the early Kuru kingdom.

The Western scholars basing their arguments on the Purusasukta and the word abhicara meaning sorcery and charms have concluded that the Vedas are three and Atharvaveda does not belong to the main body as it deals with fl magic.
This conclusion is wrong; for, the Atharvaveda deals with all those evils that have plagued mankind from the dawn of creation and suggests remedies in the form of medicines and prayers.
From the point of view usefulness, the Atharvaveda is the best for man, as it has prayers for his well-being.

Vedic mathematics is a system of mental calculation developed by Shri Bharati Krishna Tirthaji in the middle 20th century which he claimed he had based on an appendix of Atharvaveda, an ancient text of the Indian teachings known as the Vedas.
He stated that these sutras only appeared in his personal copy of the appendix, which he later lost, and not in the generally known appendices; his general editor noted that the style of language of the sutras "point to their discovery by Shri Swamiji himself".
