		In 1866, Fair Oaks (Atherton) was a flag stop on the San Francisco-San Jose Railroad line for the convenience of the owners of the large estates who lived north of Menlo Park.
		Atherton was one of only two cities in San Mateo County to a have a majority voting for George W. Bush in the 2004 Presidential election, however it was by a slim margin of 50.54%-48.27% [2].
