Rarotonga-based project officer John George, who is now on Atiu supervising this and several other projects, says 25 water tanks are already on the island and another 50 are expected to arrive on the next ship.

Apparently the reason there are so many wild pigs on Atiu is because during the Sydney Olympics a lot of the islanders went over to Australia to volunteer and never returned, leaving their pigs to run amok on the island and get more wild with each generation.
There are several Tumunus on Atiu, fortunately the one we went to was very open and friendly to women and foreign visitors.

The outer island of Atiu was home for two night last week when I visited the island to attend the petition hearing between Tumu Enua leader Norman George and Democratic Party candidate Eugene Tatuava for the constituency of Tengatangi-Areora-Ngatiarua.
When returning to the airport to wait for the flight on Friday afternoon, trucks were lined up under the coconut trees with people leaving on the flight, some waiting for arriving passengers and other just there for a peek at who is leaving or arriving.
Here are just some of the images of the youngsters on Atiu waiting for the plane and the beginning of their school holidays on Rarotonga.
