Atkinson Township is a township located in Carlton County, Minnesota.
In the township the population is spread out with 22.6% under the age of 18, 5.6% from 18 to 24, 31.0% from 25 to 44, 26.0% from 45 to 64, and 14.7% who are 65 years of age or older.
The median income for a household in the township is $49,375, and the median income for a family is $55,875.

Atkinson is one of the early settlers, there being but few in Warren township when he came here.
Atkinson have six children: Lizzie (born May 25, 1861), George (born March 17, 1862), Alice (born April 7, 1864), James (born May 25, 1866), Robert (born August 9, 1869; died September 20, 1879) and Nannie (born August 28, 1876).

Buffington designed the second Minnesota capitol building (1883), four buildings at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis Campus, that are on the National Register of Historic Places, Eddy Hall (1886), Pillsbury Hall (1889), Nicholson Hall (1890), and Burton Hall (1894), and the Willoughby Building, Chicago, Illinois (1887).
In 1996, the Minnesota Historical Society determined that it could not afford to maintain the house, and sold it to the University Club with the understanding that the villa would be renovated for commercial use in a manner sympathetic to its architectural character.
The Southern Minnesota RailRoad Company was chartered in 1855 to construct a railroad from Hokah, Minnesota, west to Missouri River and construction began in Hokah, Minnesota, in 1865, with completion of a 162 mile line at the "Grand Crossing" which ended at the Mississippi River opposite La Crosse, Wisconsin.

CONRAD P. SILVERNALE, retired farmer; born in the township of Livingston, Columbia Co., N. Y., April 8, 1810; his father, Peter C., was a prosperous farmer in that county; he was married Feb. 27, 1831, to Miss Elizabeth Avery; he is of German parentage.
They settled in the township of Brookfield in 1840, where he had bought 640 acres, and on which be lived till 1849, when he removed to the village of Waukesha, and did not thereafter engage in active business.
EDWIN WOOD, retired farmer; born in 1822 in Genesee County, N. Y.; came west in 1839, and settled in township of Waterford, Racine Co., Wis. He lived on Caldwell's Prairie, and on the old homestead, until 1874, when he sold the farm and moved to the village of Waukesha.

When the Scottish born, James and Betsy (Richie) Short, were raising their eleven children in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, they could not have imagined a community would one day be founded by five of their sons.
By 1875 the entire population of the newly formed township was only 110; by 1880 it was 153; in 1885 it is probably a little over 200.

In 1997 the Minnesota Department of Health rescinded a moratorium on delegation of the water well program which resulted in the ability for counties to apply for delegation of the water well program.
Rodney Atkinson from Atkinson Well and Pump stated the State was doing a good job and questioned the reason to change the present procedures.

Instead of establishing its own process for claims arising from the Conflict, the Minnesota Legislature adopted a memorial to the President of the U.S. praying that Minnesota citizens be reimbursed out of the annuities that would have been paid, had the conflict not occurred.
