The fourth USS Atlanta (CL-104) of the United States Navy was a Cleveland-class light cruiser.
Atlanta was operating off the coast of Honshu when the Japanese surrendered on 15 August 1945.
Atlanta was decommissioned on 1 July 1949 and placed in the Pacific Reserve Fleet.

Atlanta was damaged, but not sunk, by the experiments.

Atlanta first entered combat in late May, serving as an escort to aircraft carriers raiding enemy targets in the Ryukyu Islands and on Kyushu.
Meets with reporters from the two Atlanta, Georgia, newspapers, the "Journal" and the "Constitution", in March 1943, on the occasion of his visit to the city to climax a successful War Bond selling campaign to cover the cost of replacing the cruiser Atlanta (CL-51), sunk on 13 November 1942 off Guadalcanal.

Originally called Terminus and later Marthasville, the community was renamed Atlanta when it was incorporated as a city in 1847.
Since Atlanta served as the center of the South's system of military supplies during the first three years of the Civil War, General William Tecumseh Sherman made her a main objective in his drive across the Confederacy to the sea.
Atlanta became the state capital in 1868 and has since grown into one of the South's most important centers of industry, transportation, and finance.

On the night of the latter date, Topeka had another opportunity to strike the enemy directly when she joined Atlanta (CL 104), Duluth (CL 87), Oklahoma City, and the destroyers of DesRon 62 in an anti shipping sweep of the entrance to Sagami Nada near the sea approaches to Tokyo.

In mid-May 1964 the stricken light cruiser Atlanta (CL-104) was reinstated on the Naval Vessel Register and redesignated IX-304.
Taken to the Naval Shipyard at Hunter's Point, San Francisco, she was converted to a weapons effects test ship for use in the upcoming Operation "Sailor Hat" explosive experiments.
Stricken from the Naval Vessel Register for the second time in April 1970, Atlanta was sunk as a target off Slan Clemente Island, California, on 1 October 1970.

Willard Keith (DD-775) was laid down on 5 March 1944 at San Pedro, Calif., by the Bethlehem Steel Co.; launched on 29 August 1944, sponsored by Mrs.
Completing that tour of training duty in mid-April 1945, Willard Keith sailed for the Western Pacific (WestPac) on 16 April, heading for Pearl Harbor in company with Atlanta (CL-104) and Tillman (DD-641).
After onward routing to the forward area, Willard Keith arrived at Okinawa on 29 May. Assigned screening and radar picket duties for the remainder of the Okinawan campaign, Willard Keith destroyed two Japanese planes during her tour.
