In the county the population is spread out with 25.30% under the age of 18, 8.10% from 18 to 24, 30.60% from 25 to 44, 22.40% from 45 to 64, and 13.60% who are 65 years of age or older.
The median income for a household in the county is $43,933, and the median income for a family is $51,710.

In February of 1837, Atlantic County (formerly known as Egg Harbor) was carved from Gloucester County with boundaries that have remained substantially the same to this date.
The county is bounded on the north by the Mullica River; on the south by the Great Egg Harbor Bay and the Tuckahoe River; on the west by Camden and Gloucester Counties; and on the east by the Atlantic Ocean.
Estimated county population in the 1994 census was 232,231.

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - Some of the attractions of this gambling mecca could be killing local residents at a higher rate than in the rest of the state.
According to Kathy Hempstead, the center's director, death rates from cancer and heart disease have risen in Atlantic County, mainly due to smoking and obesity, she said, while the rates have fallen nationally.
State health statistics showed that 29 percent of county residents were classified as obese, compared with the state average of 20 percent.
