  Atlantic Rainforest
But a signifcant part of the Atlantic forest is true rainforest, and the whole forest has, by association, come to be known as the Atlantic Rainforest, so we stick to the name everbody knows, even if scientifically speaking it is not correct.
In 1988, the Atlantic Rainforest was declared a national heritage and the government prohibited any further cutting or clearance.
Rainforests survive due to complex relationships between the trees and plants and tiny micro-organisms or fungi from whom they can extract the minerals and nutrients they need to grow.

In 1997 the main cause of depletion in the Atlantic Rainforest was due to land clearance for farms or plantations.
When a portion of rainforest is destroyed causing the extinction of species, there is always the chance that that portion of the forest will again be inhabited, but there is no chance that the area will ever contain the species that it once did.

The Brazilian Atlantic rainforest consists of a typical tropical rainforest on mountain slopes, and stands out as a biodiversity hotspot for its high species richness and high level of species endemism.
Thus, the plant communities that are marginal to the rainforest are subjected either to flooding, drought, oceanicity or cold winter temperatures.
It was found that positive interactions among plants play an important role in the structuring and functioning of a swamp forest, a coastal sandy vegetation and a cold, high altitude vegetation in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
