Atlantic Ten Conference - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Atlantic 10 Conference (A10) is a college athletic conference which operates mostly in the eastern United States; it also has two member schools in Ohio: Dayton and Xavier, located in Dayton and Cincinnati, respectively.
This odd conference construction is because the A-10 Football Conference was created in 1997 by a takeover of the football-only Yankee Conference, due to NCAA rules changes that significantly diminished the legislative input of single-sport conferences.
The members of the Yankee Conference narrowly chose the A-10's merger proposal over that of the Colonial Athletic Association; this decision was later revisited by the football-playing members of the A-10, as explained below.

Division I - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Notably, the Ivy League, a Division I-AA conference, does not offer athletic scholarships.
A controversy recently arose in the NCAA over whether schools will continue to be allowed to have one showcased program in Division I with the remainder of the athletic program in a lower division, as is the case of, notably, Johns Hopkins University in lacrosse and Colorado College in ice hockey.
Each of these schools is allowed to grant financial aid to student-athletes who compete in Division I programs in one men's sport and one women's sport.

I've been revisiting the National College Baseball Archive's treasure trove of historical conference standings again, first referred to in a column I did on all-time conference standings, and this week I want to look at the list of ten-year standings for still existing conferences.
The highest winning percentage of any team who spent at least five years in a league belongs to Wichita State; the lowest to Prairie View A&M (the concept of going 35-179 in the SWAC is a hard one to wrap your mind around).
Only three Big Ten teams were over.500 over that period, which would make you think that Ohio State and Minnesota would have made more of a splash on the national scene.

If a conference ever reaches the mythical eight bids (1/8 of the field), it would be of these conferences.
This second bid is by no means a guarantee, but still, it's better than those conferences that have no chance to put more than their conference champ into the field of 65.
