But reading some interviews, he seems to really love the story of Atlas Shrugged, reading the book a great deal, having gone through some kind of transformation at some stage in his life that changed his outlook.
I think he is setting it in the future not because of the technology, the book itself is timeless, but so as to give people reason to believe the world will goto hell in the next 15 years because of the logical outcome of the philosophy that is often said today.
I was disappointed in the movie because it implies that religion and science are equally valid.

I finished reading Atlas Shrugged today, and I must confess that, as highly as I esteem Madam Rand, and as much as I agree with her philosophy of Objectivism, she simply is not what I would consider a great writer.
Atlas Shrugged made a huge impact on me when I read it at fifteen, and I read it two more times, along with the rest of Ayn Rand's main fiction and non-fiction works, before my tenth-grade school year was finished!
Atlas Shrugged is an essential book to read if you want to understand the political situation in the modern world and also the nature of human beings.

Doing some poking around, reading up on Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged today and see that the movie rights have been bought and some casting prospects have been made.
Even with that said, I can't believe a 21st century movie will be able to do justice to the work, and James V. Hart as the screenplay writer doesn't give me much to be hopeful for.
The Fountainhead (article neutrality under dispute) was made into a movie back in 1949 when Ayn was still alive.

Atlas doesn't need a contemporary setting to be relevant, in fact, no good story does...

I loved the ideas expressed in the book "Atlas Shrugged", but the verbage was not only a lot long, but indulgent.
The reason for the verbage is because this was a presentation of said philosophy as much as it was a novel/story.
Anyone that reads Atlas Shrugged without this understanding is bound to feel the way you do.

I've now read Atlas Shrugged at least six times, and I always keep some spare copies about to hand them out to any poor, hapless victims who indicate any kind of flicker of interest in philosophy or in great literature.
This is the original, this is like Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged!" And we started talking about it and I said: "I don't know why no one's ever made this movie." And we started talking about it and we both saw it in exactly the same way.
And I thought she would not be as complimentary towards the film as she was, but she had a marvelous experience and thought very highly of the movie and the people who made it.

And it’s nice to hear that the movie’s financial backers are not only admirers of the novel, but also apparently committed to seeing the project through to fruition this time.
It’s an interesting interview, although he doesn’t discuss the Atlas Shrugged project, of course.

I hope the movie will lead to a radical change in the political thinking of U.S. voters.
They tend to be very effective in productive functions, and at first this tends to lead some of them to prominance in business (and others to prominance in other fields, or in Galt's case and that of some others in no recognized field).
Michael, the good and bad guys in Atlas Shrugged are ALL "individuals", that espouse either "good" or "bad" ideas.
