Atom Ant was first seen on Sunday, September 12, 1965, when NBC aired a half-hour special titled The World of Secret Squirrel & Atom Ant, for the purpose of introducing viewers to a couple of its new Saturday morning stars.
Atom's co-star was a response to the James Bond craze.
Atom Ant was never a big comic book star, appearing in a single Gold Key comic book in 1966, and, years later, co-starring with Secret Squirrel in an issue of Archie Comics' Hanna-Barbera Presents.

Atom is a Mag and H favorite since the 1970's and, with one exception (the Egghead story coming up next) this is the first exposure I have had to any of the stories from the short-lived Ant-Man series.
Atom doesn't know why, but Hawkman immediately deduces it is due to the "Cosmitron", an ancient Thanagarian artifact found amidst the rubble of a war-devastated city on Thanagar (we're not told, but I'm guessing the war was over the royalties to the DVR invention).
The Atom and Hawkman one was a bit less successful, but it always made good sense to young H that the heroes would find one better friend to hang with among all their good friends.
