Atom Heart Mother Suite (Mason/Gilmour/Waters/Wright/Geesin) was originally composed by the band as a suite for a rock group, but they felt like something was missing and asked Ron Geesin, a Scottish experimental composer and friend of Roger Waters to write some orchestral support for the main theme, and to add some choir parts.
The result of this collaboration appeared on Atom Heart Mother in 1970, and was Pink Floyd first composition to take up a whole side of a record.

ATOM HEART MOTHER is one of the band's more overtly experimental and challenging works; yet it remains a secret favourite of die-hard fans.
Although a commercial success, it is often placed by simple chronology behind 'Meddle'; and 'Obscured by Clouds' in terms of musical accomplishment, and seen as the last transitional album, a transition that began with the expulsion of Syd Barrett from the band in the late 1960s.
However, with the returning refrain, you are always kept aware of Geesin's at times inappropriate tone that frequently takes the music into the realms of a Benny Hill-style burlesque: you sense that the two camps are working exclusively and as such the piece is something of a curate’s egg.

PINK FLOYD - ATOM HEART MOTHER - REMASTER - NEW CDS
In the grand, color-bending tradition of psychedelic experimentalism, Pink Floyd's Atom Heart Mother takes as its title an inscrutable phrase and under the title launches a similarly inscrutable--or at least dense--musical concatenation.
The title suite features French-horn-led brass melodies riffed on by David Gilmour's guitar and the rhythm section, all of which veers into choral passages that recall György Ligeti's vocal works and then almost atonal pulses of keyboards that mask reams of audio snippets swirling underneath.
Atom Heart Mother was a spotlight ahead for Pink Floyd, showing the extensions of form the band would engage in so successfully on Dark Side of the Moon just a few short years later.
