Powder Metallurgy — Powder Processes (Solid State Reduction, Electrolysis, Atomisation, Mechanical C
With the REP process the avoidance of contact with refractory is a potent means of reducing the number of non-metallic inclusions in the powder, and in components manufactured from the powder.
Atomisation is particularly useful for the production of alloys in powder form, since the constituents metals are fully alloyed in the molten state.
In this process, granular material, which may be coarsely atomised powder, is fed in a stream of gas under pressure through a venturi and is cooled and thereby embrittled by the adiabatic expansion of the gas before impinging on a target on which the granules shatter.

 Pendred Humidification&Water Systems
Filtered and de-mineralised water is pressurised (130psi) and periodically atomised into small droplets (8-15 microns) directly into the display area of the food counter.
In fact, any extra humidity added by the Atomisation system is lost into the atmosphere around the open display area of the cabinet, or removed as the air passes by the refrigeration coils.
Atomisation is not dependent on refrigeration 'Airflow; or refrigeration fans to operate effectively.

 The IRC in Materials Processing
The Atomisation and Spray Forming research group was set up originally in 1990-1991 as part of the IRC's activities on Plasma Melting.
Central to this re-organisation has been the de-coupling of the equipment used for plasma melting and spray forming and the procurement of a dedicated vacuum induction melting facility for atomisation and spray forming.
Work on atomisation and spray forming within the IRC has developed from the technological, metallurgical and economic benefits which accrue from the direct conversion of liquid metal into a powder or near net-shaped preform, and from the unique ability to produce novel, highly alloyed materials which are free from chemical and microstructural inhomogeneity.

The potential advantages of effervescent atomisation over conventional atomisers are: smaller droplets obtainable with a given injection pressure, lower gas flow-rates, larger exit orifice, lower droplet velocity and efficient atomisation of even viscous feeds (1).
In effervescent atomisation the atomisation gas is injected into the liquid to be atomised and a two-phase mixture is created.
The atomisation gas has two separate functions: As the feed passes through the exit orifice, the gas takes up space, so that the size of droplet forming liquid ligaments and shreds are reduced.

 Wolfson Electrostatics - Hazards
The efficient atomisation of liquids into a uniformly dispersed aerosol and the application of surface coatings of controlled thickness can be achieved using electrostatic techniques.
Electrostatic atomisation is achieved by directing the liquid to be sprayed through an electrified applicator - this may be a nozzle, array of tubes, blade or other geometry suited to the spraying requirements and conditions.
As the charged liquid leaves the applicator it is dispersed by the electric field (which is established between the emerging liquid and the work-piece or a counter electrode).

Effervescent atomisation is a relatively new atomisation technique, which has been developed for effective atomisation of liquid fuel for jet and diesel engines.
The results so far have shown that effervescent atomisation is superior to pneumatic nozzle atomizers with regard to uniformity and small droplet size of the aerosol of even viscous liquids and primarily with regard to a very low air-to-liquid mass ratio.
The aim of the present project is to investigate the potential of effervescent atomisation in the microencapsulation of particulate solids.

Figure 1a shows a newly developed and patented atomiser wheel (4) of the medium-slow type with hundreds of big, not filled holes operating in the laminar range and producing the typical narrow droplet size distribution.
Beyond the atomisation device discussed previously, the most important part is a process chamber to confine the droplets and the process gas.

The solutions and slurries in fine atomised droplets are pumped in a stream of hot air inside a spray chamber. This atomised spray instantly vapourises the water or the solvent present in the liquid feed and immediately forms the dry powder.
Rotary Atomisation : A wheel or disc rotating at high speed is used for atomising the liquid feed.
This technique is used in nozzle atomisation spray dryers.

BUNKERWORLD -- Viscosity: Atomisation -- Bunkers, Marine Fuel, Bunkering, Bunker Prices, BunkerNews, Suppliers, ...
Residual Fuels invariably have to be heated to reduce the viscosity to that required for atomisation.
For diesel engines the injection viscosity is usually in the range 8-27 cSt, whilst for a steam plant the atomisation viscosity is usually in the range 15-65 cSt.
The viscosity/temperature relationship for any particular fuel depends on the crude oil source and the refinery processes employed during manufacture, estimations from charts cannot be considered as precise.

News Release   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
The development stems from the simple observation that gas exit velocities in the supersonic gas nozzles used in atomisation increases substantially as the stagnation temperature in the atomisation die increases.
In addition to the generation of high temperature/pressure gas the atomisation nozzles that mix the high velocity gas with the melt stream must safely withstand the rapid and cyclic temperature increases experienced during batch atomisation and nozzles must be dimensional stable throughout an atomisation cycle.
Also the greater heat loads induced in the atomisation plant have to be dissipated including means of cooling powders on-line.

ULTRASONIC ATOMISATION An ultrasonic fog or atomisation cloud is usually produced by a piezoelectric operating in thickness mode immersed in a liquid facing a free surface.
Beyond a power threshold, these effects become finite amplitude and the waves are elongated at the crests emitting atomised droplets with the resultant formation of the atomisation cloud [2].
Operating frequencies are in the range 0.4 to 3 MHz and atomisation performance is typically quite low (less than 0.1 g/s or 360 g/hour) [1].

Validation of An Enhanced Liquid Sheet Atomisation Model Against Quantitative Laser Diagnostic Measurements
The new spray model incorporates the effect of spray swirl by preserving the angular velocity component of droplets, which are injected in a circle, and also includes a transi- tion between the initial solid cone pre-spray and the ensuing hollow cone spray.
Laser-induced fluorescence, Mie scattering and Particle Image Velocimetry were used to image a high-pressure fuel swirl spray at room tempera- ture and pressure and results were compared against modelling predictions in order to evaluate the code.s ability to capture the resulting atomisation and mixing phenomena.
Both visual and quantitative comparisons were made to assess the predictive capabilities of the model.

It seems to me as if the majority of the spray hits the opposite wall to the nozzle, then trickles down the pipe walls and pools in my FMIC piping.
