Atomiswave is Sammy Corporation's 2003 custom arcade system board and cabinet, which is based on Sega's NAOMI system board (Thus it's often common to see the "Sega" logo on its boot up screen).
Atomiswave system board uses interchangeable game cartridges, and the cabinet's control panel can be easily switched out with different control sets, including dual joysticks, dual lightguns, and a steering wheel.
Metal Slug 6 was SNK Playmore's fifth game for the Atomiswave, after which SNK moved on to a Taito arcade board.

There's a game for Atomiswave called 'Demolish Fist' which utilizes full 3D charcters and backrounds yet, from what I gather, plays exactly like a tradtional old school 2D side-scrolling beat 'em up.
Atomiswave has similar specs to Naomi and DC, but does that mean it is programmed the same?

Having Sammy develop the games on Atomiswave (Naomi based, high powered Dreamcast) would enable the top notch graphics it's fighters and shooters have long deserved all these years, and these titles WILL be successful on the PS2, XBox and future next gen systems.
To Neo MVS/AES fans, there are a few titles that are confirmed to be released beyond what has been announced officially, but as to how much longer the MVS will run is beyond our knowledge and also dependent on the day to day/month to month situation of how "things" turn out.
If all arcade titles are to be produced exclusively for the Atomiswave, well, that answers the question for the AES fans.

From the looks of it, it's a simple box with an optical drive slot and ports for four controllers/peripherals; then again, the rest of the sheet shows modular arcade hardware, so it would seem just as likely that this box is just the processing innards of a mix-and-match arcade hardware system.
It looks to be a disc based addon/upgrade (ala Naomi GD rom) or the atomiswave has been redesigned in general and now uses discs (to cut down production costs).
An atomiswave homesystem would be one of the most retarted ideas in gaming.

We were concerned that his sprite stature might have been reduced to accommodate his vicious speed and awe inspiring attacks but he's there in all his glory and hacking it up like an Atomiswave natural.
Both fighters are bald on top but Kusa's belly is bulging more and he has hair on the side of his head which would make an vicious comb over.
When the fighters are in attack range to each other and roughly 2 swords apart, the screen doesn't pan in and out until this distance is surpassed.

AtomisWave is an interesting choice, given the sudden glut of 2D fighters and rumors that Sega Sammy's dropping it in favor of Aurora...
Atomiswave seems a very odd choice if SF4 is in fact coming.
atomiswave ensures that it won't be cel shaded (thank ****), but there's still the possibility that it'll use recycled sprites on top of hideos polygonal backgrounds.

The perception that SEGA's developers would have to be forced to work on Atomiswave - basically their own hardware - is backward; it was the development for other systems that got forced on them from going third party.

Now, I've seen the Atomiswave motherboards/carts for sale, but I hesitate as I'm not sure how to supergun the board or, so much more desirably, consolize it.
One of the members bought an English Atomiswave system, and he said that the only difference on the pinout is that you don't need the -5V and that buttons 4 and 5 are on pins 25 and 26 respectively (buttons 1-3 are in the usual pins where the Neogeo had them)
Something is very different on the Atomiswave hardware that makes it difficult to output sound properly.

The Atomiswave is an arcade hardware standard based primarily on the Dreamcast hardware and licensed by Sammy.
 The Atomiswave, while not better than the Naomi, is quite cheap though, thus probably the reason why both Capcom and SNK have announced that they will be supporting the platform.
I agree to the fact that Atomiswave is cheaper and thus it'll enable even 3rd world countries to avail it...which practically means more players and money for them.

The seventh installment in the series (if one counts Metal Slug X) is being developed for Sammy's Atomiswave platform, which marks Metal Slug's first arcade appearance away from the confines of the NeoGeo-based MVS arcade system.
Although SNK Playmore had previously announced it was working on a 3D version of Metal Slug for the PlayStation 2, Metal Slug 6 sticks with the series' traditional side-scrolling 2D formula.
The demo at the AM Show only allowed for the first stage to be played, but there was a noticeable lack of gameplay slowdown (even against the huge bosses), which is a definite improvement over the outdated MVS platform.

The only thing is that it renders everything in 3d, and CPS III is rendered on a 2d plane, so the ports tend to not be too accurate.
but one of the big deals with the atomiswave is that the system takes cartridges, so you would only need to buy the cartridge and put it in the arcade unit.
But again, who knows if this rumor of SF4 on Atomiswave is even true in the first place or again if the Capcom rep was BSing in the first place.

There have been quite a few developments on the Atomiswave platoform, even though it may be approaching the end of it's lifespan.
And now that SNK has branched out from their legacy system and using the new Atomiswave platform, while they game won't look a great deal different than previous incarnations, we can expect the series to get a boost graphically in order to fulfill the creators' imaginations.
Tenkaichi Kenkyakuden is bascially a "dream match", which means it doesn't follow any specific storyline, therefore allowing a mix of characters that wouldn't normally meet (As in KOF '98).

Apparently, on this side, "ultimate master" means a windbag with diarrhea of the mouth.
It'll be a little while till Atomiswave is emulated, posting a "challenge" to the emulator authors isn't going to speed anything up.
They have been able to load the NAOMI (which is like Atomiswave's older brother) bios and play Virtua Striker.

The news was disclosed by KOF series' current main illustrator Falcoon during the King of Fighters tenth anniversary party, which took place in Japan today.
The new KOF installment is expected to hit arcades after the release of NeoGeo Battle Coliseum for the Atomiswave, which SNK Playmore is currently focusing its development on.
They're using the Atomiswave and it's plenty powerful to render gorgeous hi-res 2-D :) Unless, they were merely using Atomiswave as an anti-piracy technique which people assumed after KOF NeoWave came out.

Sammy and the Atomiswave have been in the news recently because of Sammy's purchase of a large stake in Sega before Christmas, and the recent appointment of Sammy boss Hajime Satomi as chairman of Sega.
Satomi has expressed his desire to see Sega focusing more on the profitable arcade game side of its business, and moving to supporting the Atomiswave platform as part of that move.
At the moment, most headline Sega arcade titles use on Microsoft's Xbox-based Chihiro arcade hardware, but this hardware is expensive, and Satomi obviously believes that by using the cheaper Atomiswave platform, the company can open up new revenue sources in developing markets as well as maximising profits from existing markets.

Due to the Atomiswave's similarity to the Sega Dreamcast console, ports of popular Atomiswave games like Dolphin Blue, The Rumble Fish, Guilty Gear X 1.5 or even Guilty Gear Isuka (although it is already headed to the Playstation 2) would not take as much effort as porting to other systems.
There is a petition currently making the rounds in messageboards asking for Atomiswave ports for Dreamcast, and I am sure that when it is finally submitted you will see that there is indeed demand and a market for these kinds of ports.
I recently have been reading that the Atomiswave hardware is very close in comparison to the the Dreamcast hardware, just more RAM from what I have read.
