Bright Lights Film Journal | Attack of the Clones   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-18)
Yet Attack of the Clones is quite sophisticated cinema, being an intricately constructed allegorical and symbolic tale with a powerful moral message: it is only by mastering the evils that lurk within themselves that its heroes ultimately conquer those that threaten them from without.
Drawing on the monomythic theories of the late anthropologist Joseph Campbell, Attack of the Clones is a remarkably literate film.
Not only are the Clones an aggressive and irrational race (like the Gungans they are warriors who live in a "hidden city"), but the Jedi are as oblivious to the existence of Kamino as they are to the dangers of the pride and aggression that lurk within themselves.

Q&A with Wesley J. Smith on A Consumer's Guide to a Brave New World on National Review Online
Human cloning is the essential step toward biotechnologists learning how to genetically engineer progeny, a new eugenics project that enjoys great support among futurists, bioethicists, and some within the science establishment.
Cloning would be outlawed throughout the country already had not the biotech industry thrown up one of the most dishonest and disingenuous propaganda efforts against such a ban that I have seen in my nearly 20 years of public advocacy.
Near tears, the man told the legislators that cloning was his “only hope,” when of course the committee had just heart from a world renowned expert that this was nowhere near true.

The soul-deadening string of clichés that is "Attack of the Clones" must immediately be shot beyond Pluto where it can do no harm.
"Star Wars: Episode II -- Attack of the Clones" could be the worst movie ever made and still it would have the faithful rallying around the Lucas franchise, brandishing their light sabers like bayonets.
"Attack of the Clones" is barely reviewable as a movie because it's something so far beyond (and yet less than) anything an honest-to-God movie should be.

Admittedly, the primary purpose of this film is to advance the overall story, bridging the gap between the lightweight, heroic antics of The Phantom Menace and the overwhelming darkness of the as-yet unnamed Episode III.
Attack of the Clones opens approximately ten years after the events of The Phantom Menace.
Attack of the Clones displays some similarities to The Empire Strikes Back, but, overall, it is not as effective a piece of cinema (although the 2002 era special effects make it far more pleasing to the eye).

ATTACK OF THE CLONES film review In Film Australia
I’ve often said that Attack of the Clones would be the deciding film of the new three, that it would produce a clear indication of what kind of trilogy would chronologically precede the much loved originals.
He’s back in the seat for Episode 2 – Attack of the Clones, and once again Lucas has reminded the world that his only talent in the film industry lies in his company’s production of state of the art animatronics, and that behind the camera he has no idea how to seriously handle a moment.
Attack of the Clones regurgitates the same tired clichés, the same jabs at audience affection we saw in The Phantom Menace.

Attack of the Clones is a lumbering, diffuse, out of control muddle of a movie.
The film did nearly everything right, but them shot itself in the foot by giving you a set of characters who were lackluster or irritating; and a series of battles which were never as well choreographed as they should have been.
Attack of the Clones, just for the sake of being there, really: even 3PO and R2, though  they get some of the best lines, are really little more than nostalgic cameos.

It is easy to hail the imaginative computer images that George Lucas brings to "Star Wars: Episode II--Attack of the Clones." To marvel at his strange new aliens and towering cities and sights such as thousands of clones all marching in perfect ranks into a huge spaceship.
