Centaurea lactucifolia is a splendid relic of the Tertiary endemic to the limestones of Rhodes, quite widespread on Attavyros massif and also found at Profitis Ilias, Lardos, Apollona, Vagia, Lindos.
The locals of Siana and Monolithos, where it is abundant, use it as an ornamental and edible plant (the inner parts, as in artichoke).
Asyneuma giganteum is a vulnerable chasmophyte with rare, small and local populations found on Rhodes and Karpathos.

The island has fertile coastal strips where wheat, tobacco, cotton, olives, wine grapes, oranges, and vegetables are grown.

Their altitude, soil, and orientation in combination with the several microclimates of the island: help the production of small quantities of excellent quality grapes.
The production zone of Athiri covers the central-western mountainous slopes of Attavyros mountain, around the villages of Apollona, Empona, Sianna, Monolithos and Agios lsidoros.
The red varieties of Amorgiano (known also as Mandilaria), Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache Rouge, are developed in the northern part of the central-western foot of Attaviros and within the arch created by the villages Damatria-Salakos- Kritinia.
