  Audenshaw
The population of Audenshaw in 1801 was 2,000 and by 1901, it was 7,000.
Audenshaw village was a nucleated settlement located in a T- junction between the road from Denton to Ashton and the turnpike from Manchester to Ashton.
This stagnation is reflected in the population of the Audenshaw division, which had risen from around 1500 in 1795 to 5374 in 1841, the year the hatting depression struck the area, remaining static for a decade after this date before resuming a slow growth and reaching 7958 in 1891.

Audenshaw - One of the nine towns of Tameside
Audenshaw began life as one of the four parts of the parish of Ashton.
Audenshaw, like the rest of Tameside, had to industrialise, so as farming declined, printing and linen factories were set up, alongside the industries of hatting and coal mining.
These were the primary industries up to the mid twentieth century, when coal slumped and Audenshaw had to move into engineering and light industries along with the rest of Tameside.
