  Video Capture Options
Another method to deliver video over the Internet is to stream your video, meaning that the file will reside on your server and be played on the user's computer as a continuous, buffered stream.
The video from the camcorder passes through a digitizer and is stored on the computer's hard disk (a lot of hard disk space is required --gigabytes, rather than megabytes).
It differs from video that is played from a file on a local storage medium such as a hard disk or video that is downloaded over a network to local storage media such as a hard disk and then played back from the storage media.

Normally we think of motion as natural activities seen on the video, like a moving automobile caught on a security camera, or a person waving their arms as in a to way videoconference.
A poor source video that contains noise, "sparkles" or other artifacts, or a video produced with zooms, pans and other motion unrelated to the context and quality of the content will force the system to work much harder to produce the desired viewer experience.

Understanding Video and Audio Codecs   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-12)
For example, some codecs compress videos that contain photographic images with lots of colors and color gradients in a way that produces small file sizes, while others will not compress that type of video data very well and will generate large files.
TechSmith's TSCC codec is optimized for compressing videos of desktop applications such as Microsoft Word that contain large blocks of the same color and do not contain gradient fills, photographic images, or dithered surfaces.
When a video is compressed with a particular codec, that same codec must be installed on the computer being used to view the video, because the video must be decompressed with the same codec that it was compressed with.
