Question 8: regarding the vas deferens ..”Every slide I saw of vas deferens and a HUGE muscular layer and a tiny almost closed lumen, unlike the example used in the practical.
Question 27 regarding Auerbachs plexus I’ll accept GI nerve plexus Question 35 regarding the ductus epididymis .I’ll also accept “continuious with the ductuli efferentes”.
Examination of tissue obtained on biopsy of the rectum shows absence of cells of the myenteric plexus.
Hirschsprung Disease (colonic aganglionosis) results from a congenital absence of ganglion cells in the myenteric plexus of the colon.
The aganglionic segment extends from the rectum for a variable distance proximally; in 70% of cases the aganglionic segment involves the rectosigmoid colon.

The myenteric ganglia are somewhat irregularly distributed in a complex plexus of nerve fibres [Kapoor 1995].In most portions of the gut, the myenteric ganglia are located around the entire circumference between the outer longitudinal and inner circular layers.
This is due to a developmental disorder characterized by excessive number of nerve fibres that are abnormally distributed affecting the myenteric and submucosal plexus along with hyperganglionosis [Fadda et al 1987, Puri 1997].
Howard ER, Garret JR, Kidd A Constipation and congenital disorders of the myenteric plexus.
A small amount of contrast was introduced by a rectal tube, since removed, and notice the beak-like termination of the sigmoid just above the aganglionic segment.
The diagnosis was confirmed by a rectal suction biopsy of the mucosa in this region, which showed an absence of cells of Meisners and Auerbachsplexus.
The patient was treated first with a transverse colostomy to decompress the colon and then the definitive recto-anal pull through operation in which the aganglionic segment is resected while preserving the nerve supply to the anal sphincter.
This image shows a myenteric (Auerbach's) plexus sandwiched between the outer longitudinal and inner circular smooth muscle layers of the muscularis externa.
Note in the magnified view that each plexus contains a ganglion (collection of nerve cell bodies).

This image from the colon shows Auerbach'splexus (myenteric plexus) of neurons and nerves, located between the inner and outer layers of the muscularis externa of the digestive tract.
Such neurons can be identified by their large size and their large nucleus with a single large and prominent nucleolus.
Light microscopic and electron microscopic observations of choroid plexus in n methyl nitrosourea induced dysgenetic hydromicrocephalic rat offsprings.
Light microscopic and electron microscopic studies on acetylcholinesterase activity in auerbachsplexus of the developing rat colon.
Light microscopic study of concanavalin a binding pattern in human choroid plexus and ependyma and tumors derived from both tissues.

myenteric plexus, between the longitudinal and circular layers of muscle; provides motor innervation to the two muscle layers and secretomotor innervation to the mucosa
apical lung cancers in the superior pulmonary sulcus tend to invade the neural structures around the trachea, including the cervical sympathetic plexus, and produce a group of clinical findings that include severe pain in the distribution of the ulnar nerve and Horners syndrome on the same side of the lesion
The tumours are derived from the autonomic nerve plexus and differentiate towards neurones but not schwann cells.
They occur in the small bowel stomach and mesentery and may account for many of the epithelioid stromal tumours.
There are large numbers of lymphocytes in the submucosa and infiltrating Auerbachsplexus and in areas the lymphocytes can be seen surrounding ganglion cells.
