Augment - Memory Alpha, the Star Trek Wiki   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
Augment is a term used to describe a group of genetically engineered Humans created by DNA resequencing in the late 20th century, a group of Klingons and other genetically engineered beings.
Those from the 20th century were also called supermen, the Augments were designed to be stronger, faster, and more intelligent than a normal Human being; even their resistance to energy weapons was improved, as it took multiple shots with a phase pistol to stun one.
These Augments were five times stronger than the average person, their lung efficiency was 50 percent better than normal, and their intelligence was double that of normal Humans.

After the Augment crisis, the Klingons attempted to create their own augments to combat the humans, believing that humans would place augments on their ships and put the Klingons at a severe disadvantage.

Tech Commentaries - Directed Energy Weapons
Given that the three primary energy weapons of the Star Trek universe (the blaster, disruptor, and phaser) all direct their energy by the phased energy rectification of nadions, it's somewhat understandable that "phaser" is sometimes used to refer to disruptors and blasters as well.
In Star Trek, "Type" is a logarithmic measurement of a weapon's size, used in much the same manner as a ballistic weapon is measured by its caliber.
The advent of various types of augmented phasers on Starfleet starships and starbases in the 2260s and 2270s resulted in various efforts among blaster- and disruptor-using navies to develop similarly augmented versions of their weapons in reply.

The phrase "Star Trek" has long been a sign to any wary gamer that evasion might be the best approach to titles bearing these two words.
Many games in the Star Trek "series" (I use that term loosely) have been guilty of staying within the already overused central concepts of the Star Trek universe; whereas others have failed due to the innovations being out of touch with the Star Trek feel.

Klingon augment virus - Memory Alpha, the Star Trek Wiki
The Klingon augment virus was a modified form of Levodian flu that threatened to wipe out the Klingon race in the mid-22nd century.
As depicted in the first Star Trek series, Klingons were notoriously savage, crafty and at times even cowardly, putting this characterization at odds with the more noble and honorable Klingons seen in The Next Generation.
In "Divergence," the female Laneth, newly infected by the Augment virus, claimed that she "felt fear for the first time since I was a child." Her fellow augmented warriors had "become like (humans)...

The DVD Journal | Quick Reviews: Star Trek: The Original Series - Season Two
Firstly, while the first season was Star Trek's best year overall as it gradually established its identity, characters, and sci-fi trappings, it's in Season Two (1967-68) where we find a solid, established series confidently building on what had ("boldly") gone before.
Even when Star Trek dishes out the hoke — in Season Two the budget-saving Nazi Planet, Gangster Planet, and Roman Empire Planet arrive together in short order — it's still our TV comfort food.
However, no Trek comedy is as beloved as "The Trouble with Tribbles," which is so charming (even with its feyest of Klingon captains) that thirty years later Star Trek: Deep Space Nine revisited it for one of that series' best eps.

This reduced the detonation time to where it permitted the practical augmenting of the reactants' ZPE charge - for a given mass of reactants, the revised warhead was ten times as powerful as its predecessor.
