Augustus Edwin John OM,RA, (January 4, 1878–October 31, 1961) was a Welsh painter, draftsman, and etcher.
John was born at Tenby in Pembrokeshire, studied at the Slade School of Art UCL in London and even before his graduation became recognized as the most talented draughtsman of his generation.
Michael Holroyd published a biography of John in 1975 and it is a mark of the public's continued interest in the painter that Holroyd published a new version of the biography in 1996.

This example numbered 22/25 was sold in the Augustus John Studio sale in 1962, where the examples retained by the artist were put on sale and presumably it was from these that Campbell Dodgson had worked when he produced the catalogue of John's etchings.
Augustus John was one of the greatest British draughtsmen well-known for his firm yet supple line and this etching is one of a number of female heads executed during the same period, full of poise and character.
John's activity as an etcher belongs to the Liverpool period and the majority of them were executed between 1901 and 1910.

John Augustus Roebling (born Johann August Röbling, June 12, 1806 in Mühlhausen - July 22, 1869) was a German-born architect famous for his wire rope suspension bridge designs, in particular, the design of the Brooklyn Bridge.
