 TKAS 105 (2002)
Teeth of the endopterygoid are described for the first time in the North American Late Cretaceous fish Enchodus gladiolus (Cope, 1872) from a previously described specimen from the Niobrara Chalk of Kansas.
Several fossil aulopiform genera besides Enchodus also have similar endopterygoid teeth.
The presence of endopterygoid teeth in other fossil aulopiform taxa suggests that it may be a primitive condition.

Biological Nomenclature - de Queiroz: A Phylogenetic Approach to Biological Nomenclature
One thing that remains constant is the type; the other is the Linnaean categorical assignment.
For example, the name "Asteraceae" is always the name of a family (of flowering plants), and it always includes the (type) genus Aster; similarly, "Aulopiformes" is always the name of an order (of teleost fishes), and it always includes the genus Aulopus.
These statements are true regardless of exactly which species are included in the taxa designated by those names.

I moved to the National Institute of Genetics, Japan, for my PhD, supervised by Prof.
I researched the evolution of sex chromosomes in teleost fish using cytogenetic and molecular methods; this work demonstrated that a highly differentiated sex chromosome system has been conserved in Aulopiformes.
I am now a Postdoctoral Researcher with Shigeru Karatani in the RIKEN CDB, Kobe, Japan.
