Aureliano Chaves - Brazilian civilian vice president who lead a dissident wing that eventually helped to unseat Brazil's military dictatorship in the 1980’s, and who ran unsuccessfully for president of Brazil in 1989, died April 30 after heart surgery in Rio De Janeiro at age 74.
Loreen Gephardt - Mother of Missouri congressman and Democratic presidential hopeful Dick Gephardt, who was an avid campaigner for her son throughout his political career, died May 9 of heart ailments in St. Louis at age 95.

Antônio Aureliano Chaves de Mendonça (Três Pontas, 13 de janeiro de 1929 — Itajubá, 2002) foi um político brasileiro, governador de Minas Gerais (1975-1978) e vice-presidente da República (1979-1985).
Foi o primeiro vice civil da ditadura militar desde Pedro Aleixo (o vice de Artur da Costa e Silva, que foi impedido de assumir pelos militares quando esse ficou doente, que instalaram uma junta), já indicando a dissolução das bases do regime.
Com a vitória de Maluf, nomes como Aureliano, Maciel, Antônio Carlos Magalhães e Sarney decidiram sair do PDS e fundar um novo partido, o Partido da Frente Liberal, em alusão à "frente liberal" que esses políticos formavam a partir dali, para apoiar o candidato da oposição Tancredo Neves no colégio eleitoral, na chamada "Aliança Democrática".

Morreu na manhã de hoje aos 74 anos o mineiro Aureliano Chaves, o último vice-presidente do regime militar (1964-1985), que também foi governador do Estado de Minas Gerais.
Aureliano estava internado desde o dia 14 de abril no hospital Socor, em Belo Horizonte, por causa de uma infecção pulmonar.
Aureliano concorreu à sucessão de José Sarney (1985-1990), vice de Tancredo, nas eleições presidenciais de 1989, a primeira votação direta após o regime militar (1964-1985), que teve Fernando Collor de Mello como vitorioso.

HRG Energy was authorized to construct the 191.76MW Aureliano Chaves thermoelectric project in the municipality of Betim, Minas Gerais state; and Nutricel Nutrientes got the go ahead to construct the 9.4MW Alvorada thermo project in the municipality of Guaranesia, also in Minas Gerais.
Centrais Eletricas Belem (Cebel) meanwhile received authorization to construct the 39MW Apertadinho hydroelectric project in the municipality of Vilhena, in the Amazonian state of Rondonia.
