  No. 05-978: United States v. Pataki - Petition
The Cayuga Indian Nation of New York and the Seneca-Cayuga Nation of Oklahoma were plaintiffs in the district court and appellees/cross-appellants in the court of appeals.
On July 27, 1795, the State of New York signed an agree ment with the Cayuga majority under which the State pur ported to acquire the bulk of the Tribe's remaining lands in exchange for an annuity of $1800.
After ruling that the State of New York was liable to the Tribes for wrongful conversion of tribal land, the district court addressed the remedial issues presented by the case.

Although the tribe successfully intervened in the land claim between the Cayuga Indian Nation of New York and New York that claim was dismissed and the trial court's judgment was vacated by the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit ([5]) and the U.S. Supreme Court declined to review the case.
