Ein heil del kartleggjingsarbeid kring gamle bilete gjort av kommunen, og Aurland har elles vald ei eiga løysing for fotovern-arbeidet, uavhengig av Fylkesarkivet.
Aurland Sogelag og kulturkontoret har i fleire år arbeidd for innsamling og bevaring av privatarkiv.
Aurland er den einaste kommunen i fylket, kanskje i heile landet, som har ordna seg med ein plan for alle sider ved det lokale kulturvernet.

Aurland kommune fekk i 2005 utarbeidd rapporten "Aurland natur- og kulturpark; Utvikling av ein modell for støttefunksjonar for natur- og kulturbasert verdiskaping", skreve av Aurland Naturverkstad, finansiert av Riksantikvaren.
UMB (Universitetet for miljø og biovitenskap) har gjennomført eit forskingsprosjekt kring prosessane som skjer i Aurland.

We chose Aurland because it is easy to reach by boat or train, has a population of only 1,800 and is relatively undiscovered by tourists.
We reached Aurland from Bergen via the Sogne Fjord on one of the jet express boats docked at Bergen's town harbor.
Aurland gets less rain than other parts of Norway (about two feet annually compared to six feet in Bergen).

In passing a weakness zone 10 km from Aurland, there was a huge fall from the roof of the tunnel.
The tunnel between Aurland and Laerdal will be the longest road tunnel so far built in the world when it opens in the year 2000.
About 10 km from the Aurland end of the tunnel, a cleaning plant for the tunnel ventilation air is installed in a short side tunnel.

The Lærdal Tunnel is the first in the world to be equipped with an air treatment plant, located in a 100-meter (328 feet) cavern 9.5 km (5.9 miles) from Aurland, that removes both dust and nitrogen dioxide from the tunnel air.

Some friends and I will be taking a road trip from Oslo to the Aurland Lookout, Aurland on Monday, September 4th.
So, if this route is taken, we might have to stay overnight somewhere near Aurland to make it work.
10 hours stiff driving just to get to Aurland and back is a bit much for me. The drive is not the most scenic, but still nice.
