When she returned to the Baltic sea, the Aurora for a long time was used as a ship for training naval cadets of the Naval College.
For the whole period of the Leningrad siege from 1941 to 1944 the Aurora was moored at a pier in the Oranienbaum port (the town of Lomonosov) and was constantly shelled and bombed.
In 1948 the cruiser Aurora was moored at the Petrogradskaya embankment of Leningrad and till 1956 was used as a naval training ship by the Leningrad Nakhimov College.

The steam yacht Aurora (SY Aurora) was built by Alexander Stephen and Sons Ltd. shipbuilders in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1876, for the Dundee Seal and Whale Fishing Company.
In 1884, the Aurora made a failed attempt to rescue the Greely Expedition to claim the reward money, and in 1891, the ship came to the rescue of the crew of the Polynia when it was crushed in sea ice.
Lloyd's of London posted the ship as missing on 2 January 1918, and it was believed she was a casualty of the First World War.

In a campaign of 1916 AURORA was temporary used for cadets' naval practice, and later participated in Gulf of Riga defence: supported by the fire land forces, repelled air attacks on Russian ship's detachment.

As P and O's new ship Aurora was in her maiden season, we went ahead and booked in March for the "Canaries Caper" Cruise departing 18 June 2000.
Aurora was built at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany and arrived off the Isle of Wight on 16th April, where she was escorted by the "Tall Ships" into her home port of Southampton.
The ship slipped its moorings at 1800 hours and it was a pretty spectacular send off, and to leave from the United Kingdom was extra special.

The British cruise ship Aurora carrying hundreds of British tourists hit by a stomach bug left the Greek port of Piraeus on Friday after doctors treated the passengers and loaded medical supplies.
The ship, which left Southampton on October 20 on a 17-day round trip, was scheduled to continue its voyage to Gibraltar.
There was no sign of passengers on the decks during the ship's brief stay in Piraeus as doctors carrying medical supplies went on board through a side hatch.

They say the best ship is always the one you are on at present, well with Aurora all I can say is I cannot wait to get back on her again.
The carpets throughout the ship are in rich colours and patterns, and everywhere they tone in nicely with the decor of each room.

 The Cruiser Aurora Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia
The historical ship Aurora has been turned into a museum and is docked just a few hundred yards upstream from the Cabin of Peter the Great, opposite the "St Petersburg" Hotel.
After the war the ship was used for personnel training and during the October revolution of 1917 gave the signal (by firing a blank shot) to storm of the Winter Palace, which was being used as a residence by the democratic, but largely ineffective Provisional Government.
