His paper on the aurora published in 1964 was cited as one of the most quoted papers.
He received also the 1999 Alaskan of the Year Denali Award, and the 2003 Aurora Award from the Fairbanks Convention and Visitors' Bureau.

The Bayan-Central Luzon report cited the construction and improvement of 14 schools in the provinces of Pampanga, Bulacan, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija and Aurora; 12 multi-purpose halls in Pampanga, Bulacan, Tarlac, Aurora and Pangasinan; and three drainage systems in Angeles City and one in Balungao town, Pangasinan.
Roman Polintan, Bayan-Central Luzon chair, said his group issued the report to dispel the allegations by National Security Adviser Norberto Gonzales that Bayan Muna and five other party-list groups have been using its Countrywide Development Funds (CDF), known as "pork barrel," to "aid and abet the armed struggle of the New People's Army."
The projects also included the construction of six barangay roads in Angeles City, Mabalacat in Pampanga, Tarlac City, Nueva Ecija and Alaminos, Pangasinan; three seawalls in Paombong and Malolos City in Bulacan and in Orani, Bataan; a bridge in Licab, Nueva Ecija; and two farm-to-market roads in Dinalupihan and Samal, Bataan.

 Europe will land on Mars in 2013 The Register
Mark Sims, chair of PPARC's Aurora committee said that it was still to early to say exactly where on Mars the mission would be aimed, but added that it would be "nice to go for one of the methane hotspots".
The European Space Agency (ESA) has confirmed that it plans to send another mission to land on Mars, as part of the pan-European Aurora programme to explore the solar system.
The main objectives of the €500m mission will be to search for past or present Martian life; to learn more about the source of the atmospheric methane, and find out whether Mars is still seismically active.
