Tasmanian energy retailer Aurora Energy has signed a six-year naming rights sponsorship deal covering the sports ground and facilities in the York Park precinct in Launceston, which is currently used exclusively for AFL matches in the State.
On Sport spoke with Adrian Wild, manager of corporate affairs for Aurora Energy, who said that Aurora has had a long involvement with the AFL in Tasmania, dating back to the AFL's initial move into the State in 1998 when it was involved with AFL Tasmania's football development programs.
In background to the move, earlier in the year Aurora signed as the naming rights sponsor to a new corporate functions centre at the stadium, and Wild indicated that once the company saw the benefits of that deal, the naming rights sponsorship of the entire venue was the logical next step.

THE controversial Aurora Stadium sirens were yesterday tested; then tested again; in preparation for today's AFL clash in Launceston.
Aurora Stadium manager Robert Groenewegen said yesterday the newly installed $15,000 sirens had an emergency battery backup and another siren would be played through the PA system if they failed.
Ms Lindsay said the Aurora Stadium sirens would comfortably reach the 86-decibel standard agreed on for AFL venues.

The Cameron Tyson Stand at Aurora Stadium in Launceston is to make way for a mega- grandstand after the State Government yesterday committed $5 million for the final stage of the ground's redevelopment.
"A lot of development has taken place at Aurora Stadium to provide for players and football fans alike and to ensure the future of AFL in Tasmania," Mr Cox said.
Next year is building as a bumper season as Aurora Stadium is set to host possibly three additional AFL matches while the MCG is unavailable due to Commonwealth Games requirements.

Justin has been involved in the delivery of the Aurora ‘Footy in Schools’ Program, with the assistance of the Development team at AFL Tasmania throughout Tasmania, which will see over 10,000 students participating in the Program from Grades 3 to 6.
The Wrest Point Tasmanian Devils will be hosting some international visitors this Saturday night when a French documentary film crew attend the Tasmanian Devils versus Coburg Tigers game at Aurora Stadium.
