 York Region Transit
York Region Transit (YRT) is the transit authority for York Region, Ontario, Canada and consists of a network of buses serving the communities of Vaughan, Markham, Stouffville, Richmond Hill, King Township, Newmarket, Aurora, East Gwillimbury, and Georgina.
It was created by the regional government in 2001 to combine five of the municipally-managed transit authorities in the region: Vaughan Transit, Markham Transit, Richmond Hill Transit, Aurora Transit, and Newmarket Transit.
While these municipal transit services were managed by their respective municipalities, they were, in fact, contracted out to private operators.

Transit use in all four counties rose rapidly during the late 1970s with the advent of the energy crisis and an influx of both local and federal transit funding, but leveled off during the 1980s (annual ridership of between 60 and 70 million).
Transit service is also facilitated by a total of 68 miles of freeway HOV lanes, a limited number of arterial HOV lanes, and by-pass lanes on freeway ramps for buses and carpools.
Transit's Operating Environment Transit's limited influence on improving mobility is in large part due to the characteristics of the environment within which transit must operate: changes in travel patterns and high levels of automobile ownership, prevailing land development patterns, changing demographics, and economic disincentives to transit use.

Alaskan students are intimately familiar with aurora as a part of their daily lives, and in many instances, their tribal folklores contain frequent mention of this dramatic natural phenomenon.
The experience of the aurora in human terms is a very visual one, and students will be challenged to capture the color, forms and their changing aspects in their artwork.
Although the aurora are visible during much of the normal school year, the Venus Transit will occur very late in the school year (June 8) when some schools may no longer be in session.

For example, the presentation gives a guide to the possibility that the aurora is located near a given location in the northern hemisphere under the conditions that existed at the time of the most recent polar satellite pass.
The process to estimate the hemispheric power, and the level of auroral activity, involves using this normalization factor which takes into account how effective the satellite was in sampling the aurora during its transit over the polar region.
A large (> 2.0) normalization factor indicates that the transit through the aurora was not very effective and the resulting estimate of auroral activity has a lower confidence.

Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) is a concept in which small vehicles operate at moderate speed over a fixed guideway, and would probably be operated automatically by a computer system.
My concept of a PRT system to be used in conjunction with the monorail system would be a scaled-down monorail operating within a high-traffic area locally around a station for the high-speed regional monorail sytem.
The PRT system would interconnect with their light rail line and also with the Skyways, a system of covered pedestrian walkways interconnecting a large number of downtown stores, offices, and other buildings (a brilliant solution to the cold winter weather that can hit that area).
