The Toolset Manual is a reference manual in which every object type, property, tool and functionality offered by the Toolset is described in detail, along with many tips to help builders in the creation process.
This is a toolset manual for the HoTU exp pack, but much of the content will be helpful with the previous NWN versions, as well.
The purpose of this FAQ is to explain what property does what when you're making items through the Aurora Toolset, because the manual is rather sketchy on the details of various enchantments.

Don't get us wrong, the game itself is going to be great, but after playing around with the toolset we can only imagine the cool dungeons, maps, and modules that people are going to be making.
But what's so damn cool about the toolset is that it can make anyone (yes, even you) look like a brilliant level designer/programmer.
Granted, we already knew the gameplay and visuals were going to be unbelievable, but after checking out the other key features of the game like the DM client and the amazing toolset, we were simply speechless.

According to NWN Mods developer Tom Prosser, similar errors with the toolset occured during the develpment of Lords Of Chaos, and whether or not it is the toolset or the Module properties that are causing these errors is not yet known.
Whether this means that the new Aurora Toolset will be backwards compatible for certain, even if it's in only some aspects, we cannot say.
Due to the new version of the Aurora Toolset being released with Neverwinter Nights 2 not being backwards compatible, several Modules have been delayed but The Chaos Quadrilogy is one of the larger series' that we had hoped to play before 2006.

Aurora toolset was fantastic, and the NWN community was phenomenal.

I use the toolset in a limited way (create items) and know that there will be good mods out there, regardless of the OC being better or worse.

The game doesn't ship with a complete set of documentation for the toolset, but because of the community appeal of Neverwinter Nights, the answers to any questions you might have about it are just waiting to be read on the game's official message boards.
In addition to the campaign and the toolset, Neverwinter Nights includes a DM client, which lets you play the game using the godlike powers of a pen-and-paper D&D dungeon master, able to manipulate the proceedings of any module in real time and at your whim.
Like the Aurora toolset, this isn't easy--especially because you're something of a performance artist in your role as DM, and your audience's enjoyment depends largely on your actions.

I have been thinking alot of NeverWinter Nights 2, and aspecially for the Aurora Toolset ofcourse because I have a huge respect for this game.
What i'm planning to do actually, is to get the Aurora Toolset for NWN2 sooner then when the game comes into the stores, to make a module for the people that will be present after the time when the game lies in the stores.
Cause that sort of defeats the purpose, I mean yeah we get to familiarize w/ the toolset prior to release but all that work shouldn't be wasted.

Gamasutra - Features - "Postmortem: BioWare's Neverwinter Nights" printer friendly
Although part of the increase was due to the fact that the Neverwinter Toolset was to be publicly released, we would have still invested fairly heavily into the tools even if they were only intended for internal use.
The decision to go forward with a new tool, or a new feature for an existing tool, depends on whether the time required to make the tool will be made up in the time saved by using the tool.
One of the ways we plan to do this is to reuse the BioWare Aurora Toolset as a rapid prototyping tool for story design, even for games with radically different interfaces and rules systems.

Apparently the toolset will be very powerful for those who can figure out how to use it, so it would seem that if you are good at that kind of thing, you will be able to create your own persistent world, but there won't be any tools created to make it easier to do so.
I wouldn't take experience with the aurora toolset as a guarantee you'll be able to work with the DA toolsot.
Remember, too, that unlike NWN (and indeed NWN2) the main focus here is not the toolset and therefore we are not likely to go wildly out of our way to make bells and whistles for the toolset as it's not the point.

The Codex Forums :: View topic - NWN2 Ditches Aurora Engine Toolset
It looks like Obsidian Entertainment finally realized what a horrible piece of crap the toolset in NWN (Aurora Engine Toolset) really was and decided to ditch it for something of their own design.
While rewriting the graphics engine and toolset may not be taking the "easy" way out, I don't know that it's entirely the smartest thing to do.
The whole "there is hope for Obisidan, they ditched Aurora" thing is an illusion - they chose to rewrite the toolset, likely because it was written in Borland C++ which makes porting things like the graphics engine a pain if you have people coding in Visual Studio.

The first thing we'll do in the toolset when we get into the toolset later is set up the placeable to have the name that we want.
On top of that, if you want others to be able to easily add your placeable to the Custom palette in the toolset without having to worry about choosing the right appearance type, you're going to need to create an ERF file.
When a Builder imports an ERF into the toolset, a new listing is created in Custom palette to enable the easy addition of that type of object to the module.
