Austerfield - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Austerfield is a village in the metropolitan borough of Doncaster (part of South Yorkshire, England), on the border with Nottinghamshire.
A council was convened by King Aldfrith of Northumbria at Austerfield in 702,which was then on the boundary between the two Anglo-Saxon kingdoms of Northumbria and Mercia, attended by Berhtwald,Archbishop of Canterbury to decide on whether Bishop Wilfrid should become Archbishop of York.
Austerfield contains the 11th century church of St Helena, built in 1080 by John de Builli, where "pilgrim father" William Bradford, who was born in Austerfield, was baptised.

 Austerfield
There is a further Northumbrian connection in 702AD, with the Synod of Austerfield, a church meeting called by Archbishop Berhtwald of Canterbury to settle a dispute between the King of Northumbria, Ældfrith and Wilfrid (Wilfrith), Bishop of Ripon.
However his desire to follow the path of the Pilgrims was such that at an early age he left the village on that 13-year journey that would end in America with Bradford taking the role of Governor and historian of the new settlement.
A walk around the village, and the names of some of the lanes show the place to have been, and still be to some extent, a farming community and it is this farming link that probably gives the village its name, an ‘auster’ being a sheep pen on the open common land.

Honey, often described as "Nectar of the Gods", has been used as a natural, unrefined, sweetener since the time of the cave dwellers.
Austerfield Apiary does not pasteurize honey, since bacteria cannot live in it,and the high heat required to destroy sugar-tolerant yeasts which cause granulation also kills the natural enzymes and vitamins.
